The violinist Mátyás Bartha began his musical studies with Prof. Istvan Ruha at the Music Academy Gheorghe Dima in Cluj, formerly Klausenburg. His interest in chamber music developed early. After going on to study with Prof. Sandor Devich at the Music Academy of Budapest he won several prizes in chamber music contests, among others, a special prize for the best quartet interpretation of the works of Béla Bartók. As a member of various chamber music formations and also as soloist he performed in concerts all over Europe and South America. Since 2001 Bartha has been a member of the Symphony Orchestra Basel.
